57. 1995 Raptors Inaugural Seat

I still have one of the Inaugural seats from the first Raptors Game at the Skydome. My goal was to have it signed by the most popular player who played in that game (Damon Stoudamire).

This should be an easy task as coincidently, he lived in the same building (Kings Landing) as I did and we would sometimes share an elevator from parking. The problem was I never had the chair with me on those days that I saw him. This went on for a couple years and then I heard rumours of him being traded. I then kept the chair in back of my car so I would have it handy if we came home the same time. Keep in mind my office was in the Skydome at the time and he played at the Skydome as well. Also remember, as part of my ethics, I would never ask a player to sign in my place of business.

I also kept a nice bottle of scotch with me to give him to thank him for signing.  The opportunity came one day and took the chair and bottle of scotch and asked him in the elevator if he wouldn’t mind signing the chair. He may have been having a bad day because he said can you let me do it at another time. Actually his exact words were “catch me later”.

I am still looking forward to him signing that chair when and if he comes to Toronto for a signing event.
