Sportsnet Soccer Central Table signed with approx. 1,500 Pins
Every few years most media companies like to refresh their sets so all the Rogers Sportsnet sets were being replaced around 2004. Most are so large they would not fit through the entrances in homes. That was the case with most of the sets at Sportsnet except the Soccer Central desk used by Gerry Dobson and Craig Forrest. Although very long 8 feet by 43 inches, the height was 2.5 feet so I was able to move it to my home. The other sets were disposed of except one host set stand up position with a hole for their monitor, I thought would make a great item for Halloween. I could hide in the stand-up desk with a scary mask and a pot over the top opening. When the trick or treaters came they would lift the pot to get the candy and run into my scream mask. My daughter would warn some of them as she did not like seeing the terror in their face.
On the final use of the soccer central set, I had e-mailed Gerry Dobson and Craig Forrest that there was a sharpie taped under the desk and if they could sign the front as I would be picking up the desk the following day.
My plan for the desk was to place pins into foam on the desk and place hockey pucks on the desk to hold up the thick glass that protects the table and pins. Currently I placed approximately 1,500 pins from the 2010 Vancouver Olympic on the desk with 9 pucks from the 2010 Vancouver Olympics.
