Blue Jays Cushion Blue Seat Backs

I have stories for all my Blue Jays seats, 1992 WS Limited Cushion Seat, 1993 WS Diplomat Cushion Seat, 1991 All-Star Game Diplomat Cushion Seat, Exhibition Stadium Seat, Skydome Original Seat. And now the story on the Blue Jays Cushioned Blue Seat Backs.

As some of the office workers new my unique Blue Jays collection especially my collection of stadium seats, be it hockey or baseball, I got a call from Teresa after she spoke to her VP.

She said they had a couple hundred of these seat backs that have been in storage and have collected a lot of dust and spider webs and they are going to toss them and offered me one so I can keep with my collection. She warned me how dirty they were.

I mentioned to checking with her boss at the time Anthony P. if they had an interest in selling them and the proceeds can go to the Jays Care Foundation. It turned out the seat backs did not have any numbers or authentication that they came from the old Window Restaurant area. I asked if they could do something to indicate they were used during the 1992 and 1993 World Series.

Teresa called me back and said MLB would authenticate the seats so I told her I would call my usual vendors that I purchase from and see if and how many they would like. (AJ Sports, Frozen Pond, Hockey to Hollywood, Glory Days etc.) We were able to find a home for the Seatbacks at AJ’s and Frozen Pond and Jays Care got a cheque and the Jays did not have to pay a disposal fee and I got my single chair. Eventually I got Kelly Gruber to sign 1992 WS Champs on mine. My buddy Rick K. who puts up with me purchased one as well.

I can do another story on the clean-up of my SUV picking up 20 at a time and then having to clean and wash each one and explain to one of the producers of the Jays on Sportsnet, why I was seen filling my truck next to the mobile bay at Skydome (loading zone). The producer RBJ just looked at me and said, “I am not going to even ask.”
