Game Used Pink Nick Kypreos Signed Hockey Stick
An event held by the NHL was raising money for Breast Cancer. Players would donate their pink sticks after they used them in a game, and it would be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
As I worked with Nick K. at Sportsnet for a number of years and had a lot of respect for him for not only playing the game and even winning a Stanley Cup, but for his transition into his analyst position.
I didn’t see any bids next to his stick (one reason it was supposed to be used but the only place he could have used it was in his driveway as his playing days were done.
I ended up winning the auction and the next day Nick saw I was the winning bidder and just dropped the stick off in my office. I laughed and told Nick, he wasn’t allowed to do that as he had to give the stick to NHL organizer so they can ensure it is paid in full before it was shipped.
He laughed and I asked him if he would put Happy 10th Birthday Savannah (my daughter) as it was 2006 and her 10th Birthday. She now has a pink Hockey Stick to go along with her Pink Baseball Bat.
By the way, I called the organizer and explained I had the stick and gave my credit card information over the phone, so they had an audit trail for the stick. They had a good laugh as well.
