Limited Edition Football Press Pins
For people not familiar with pin collecting there are many different types of collectors. They can be specific to Sports, Olympics, Coke, Disney etc. Then there are subsections of each. (eg. each Olympics have country pins called NOC and then there are media, individual sports, sponsor, generic, etc)
The holy grail of Pins for NFL, CFL, NHL, MLB, etc are what are known as Press pins. These pins for example if you are wearing one during the week of the Super Bowl would get you in to many exclusive pre-game events providing free access to alcohol, food etc. Once the event was over the pin still had great value to a collector. - $50 to $500.
As I was not lucky enough as VP Finance and Administration for Sportsnet to attend the media events for these special events with the company, I had to live through and rely on our VP Content (Dave A.) who was invited to these events as we were rights holders.
He was a gentleman that liked to travel light with no checked baggage so when he would get his gift bag when attending an event Super Bowl, World Series, NHL Playoffs etc., he was more than happy leaving the content in his hotel room for room service. There would be balls or other trinkets including a press pin. Over the years he softened up a little and I convinced him to at least open the bag and take the small press pin as it can fit into his pocket. I do have to thank Dave A. for a half a dozen press pins over the years.
