Dave Stieb No Hitter Program
This is an unusual one. My ex-wife (wife 2) worked at the Skydome in the suites and would occasionally have interesting guests. (at least I thought so).
Well one evening she came home and brought be a game program of Tom Candiotti on the cover signed by Dave Stieb.
I asked what was that about? She said she had Dave Stieb in the box and thought it would be nice to get something for him to sign as a nice surprise for me. She said she jumped into a cab and went over to Legends of the Game (big sports memorabilia store that I frequented often) which was just down the street at King and John. She knew I was friends with the owner Wally and Glen and they gave her that program. It didn’t make sense to me as I asked her why she just didn’t go downstairs and buy a Jays baseball and get it signed.
I didn’t want to sound ungrateful as she never liked asking for an autograph and I didn’t want this to stop her going forward.
I remember tossing and turning that night because I knew Wally wouldn’t give her that program to get signed by Dave Stieb unless there was a reason or a big mis-communication. I got on the phone the next morning and spoke to Wally. He explained that was the program that was given out in Cleveland the night of Dave Stieb No Hitter.
That program went from an ordinary program signed by a random pitcher to one of my favorite keep-sales.
