Mother's Day Blue Jays Scorecard from the 2006 Season Cito Gaston Signed
Going to the annual Blue Jays Diamond Gala was always a costly event as that’s where you were able to get game used player jerseys and other unique items. That year my wife at the time accompanied me as she wanted to keep an eye on me. She did cramp my style that night but for the first time they had Pink Game Used Bats that were used as part of raising money for Breast Cancer and Mother's Day. I noticed they had a Pink Scorecard signed by Gibbons and an Alex Rios game used bat from the game. I said “wouldn’t that look nice in our daughters room” and to my surprise she said it would be ok to bid on it. This was much easier than the usual coming home from the event and keeping everything in the garage until I could sneak it in the next day.
The starting bid was $100 so I bid $120. I came back an hour later and there was only one more bid on it for $1,000. I couldn’t believe someone would bid that high for that item. Usually it was some of my colleagues who knew what items I liked and would purposely bid up the price.(Yes, I am referring to you RBJ, for me paying double for the Hillary Duff Signed shoes you knew I was getting for my daughter)
As it turned out, I did not who it was this time but since I had the green light from the wife, I eventually paid $1,100 for the Bat and Score Card. I kept the Pink Score Card but never ended up hanging on to the bat as the pink bat went into a subsequent trade.
In the end the money all went to a great cause, the Jays Care Foundation.
