1. Wayne Gretzky and Walter Gretzky Signed Induction Puck

Hockey

1999 Hall of Fame Induction Puck signed by both Walter and Wayne Gretzky.

I purchased the unsigned 1999 HOF puck at the HHOF store the day of the Induction Ceremony of Wayne Gretzky, Scott Morrison, and Any Van Hellemond.  As I was attending the ceremony that evening, I thought if I had the chance, I would have Gretzky sign the puck. Little did I know he would be kept far from all guests so signing was not a possibility that evening.

As I was mingling with some of the former players and analysts, I started talking to Waynes’s father Walter, who was such a down to earth and knowledgeable individual. At some point during the conversation, I showed him the puck I had, and asked if he would sign it for me. After he signed it, he said “how is that? what can be better than that?” I said jokingly, “It signed by father and son”. He said, “do you want me to get Wayne to sign it too”? I said, “eventually I would, but understand there is no signing this evening”. He said, “give me the puck”. He went over to the section behind the roped off area as he made Wayne put down his plate of food and sign the puck. He came back about 5 minutes later and said, “how is that?” That evening and experience has stayed with me for now over 20 years.
